I highly recommend the pancakes. The texture contrast is not my ideal, but I can see why it's very popular. The thin outside layer is firm, and most of the inside is very soft and fluffy, like a softer marshmallow or New Zealand pavlova. I very much enjoyed the pancake without much butter or syrup. The whipped cream on the side was enough to balance out the taste. The service was very friendly and helpful. They were happy to accommodate my last-minute request as I was passing by and gave me a seat on the spot. The seating area is good for catching up with friends or family. It wasn't too noisy or crowded.

"Everything is just better in Japan". While it's far form the most controversial thing that my friend has ever said (unfortunately...), it's probably not that far off. Electronics, ramen, public transportation, 7-Eleven...the list goes on. Including when it comes to pancakes because, with all due respect the classic American diner staple, they're far from interesting. What's more, sometimes they're too thick, sometimes they're too dry, sometimes they're too pale, sometimes they're burnt. Japanese souffle pancakes, on the other hand? They're anything but typical or boring. I mean, have you not seen what they look like? So, needless to say, I'd just been counting the days until my next trip to Japan to try them. That is, until Gram Cafe came along and brough their souffle pancakes to me (and the Bay Area at-large)! Even though I'm only writing this now, I'd been curious about this place ever since it first opened. The long lines of equally curious diners deterred me from coming here for a while, but to be honest, my inability to remember Gram Cafe had more to do with my tardiness (that and that thing called COVID didn't help). I'd always remind myself whenever I would walk by, though. After all, the menu really is akin to what you might see at a cafe in Japan - a variety of Japanese snacks like karaage and takoyaki, French toast, curry plates, and, of course, their souffle-style and "traditional" pancakes. In addition to that, they've also got a terrific beverage menu, featuring various types of coffees, teas, smoothies, and dalgonas, among others. -- DIRTY MATCHA LATTE The name of this is quite fitting for how it looks, but in the best of ways. The balance of coffee and matcha flavors is perfect - you get a nice hit of coffee alongside a delicious tinge of matcha with every sip. Plus, it's not nearly as sweet as what you'll find at other places out, so points for that. -- TONKATSU CURRY - Fried Pork Cutlet, Rice, Japanese Salad, Cheddar Maybe it's because I had wasn't expecting much, but this was actually pretty solid! Even though I didn't taste any of the cheddar, the katsu was crispy, the pork was moist, and the rice was cooked well. As for the curry, it was kind of dark, but the taste of it was good (nice hit of curry, but not super potent). -- PREMIUM ORIGINAL PANCAKES - Three Japanese Souffle Style Pancakes with Butter and Cream Funny enough, the plainest one we got turned out to be my favorite. The pancakes came as advertised - super soft and fluffy. They were also moist on their own, but the butter and creamed helped while also adding some a bit of richness/sweetness. -- PREMIUM STRAWBERRY PANCAKES - Two Japanese Souffle Style Pancakes with Strawberry Mascarpone Creme Anglaise and Fresh Strawberries Not quite as amazing as I hoped it would be, but not too shabby either. The pancakes were just as good, but they did feel a little smothered by all of the strawberry creme anglaise, which felt a little sugary towards the end. Plus, it reminded me a bit too much of strawberry Pocky. -- PREMIUM HAZELNUT CHOCOLATE PANCAKES - Two Japanese Souffle Style Pancakes with Creamy Hazelnut Chocolate Sauced Topped with Chocolate Flakes and Rocher Of the trio we had, this was my least favorite. it certainly wasn't bad (the pancakes were the same) and I liked the flavors, but there just ended up being too much chocolate for me after a couple of bites (my friends' kids seemed to like this, though). While the souffle pancakes may not have blown any of my friends or I away, the one thing that did impress was the customer service. Between the time we ate here and the handful of others times I've stopped by to get a drink (a dirty matcha latte, of course), the workers have always been super friendly and kind. Plus, we really appreciated how they never tried to nudge our table out (not that we loitered around) and they've always made my drink quickly with a smile. Now, considering how Gram has just another week or so (at this location in Stonestown, at least), it's kind of bitter sweet to finally be writing this. Glad to have finally tried Gram Cafe yet also bummed out I'll likely have to wait until if/when they re-emerge in the Bay Area again to try more of the menu, like their desserts. Heard perhaps that might come sometime down the line in the South Bay, but regardless, hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later! THREE AND A HALF STARS ROUNDED UP.

Soufflé pancakes in the Bay? We all know Gram's got 'em! I've wanted to dine at Gram but the timing never aligned or I wasn't in the mood while shopping at Stonestown. After learning their location was closing and they were relocating, that spurred my desire to go with my friend Li Y. The restaurant reminds me of other aesthetically minimal Asian cafes and restaurants. It's bright, has cute decor, and is clean. When we came in, it was quiet and peaceful which was nice. The workers were all friendly and efficient. You can either do take-out or be seated for dine-in, luckily we had no wait on a Monday afternoon. My friend and I decided it was best to share their soufflé pancakes. We ordered the Premium Matcha Créme Brûlée Pancake. Be advised, it takes 30 minutes for them to make your pancake. Once our pancakes were brought to us, I couldn't help but do the jiggle test! The pancakes were uniform, jiggly, and so pretty. One bite in, and it was like eating a cloud! Super light, fluffy, and soft. The cream tasted like matcha, wasn't too sweet, and was creamy. I wish we could've gotten one more pancake on top for the price, but we both ate ours in several minutes! Though it's bittersweet that Gram is leaving Stonestown, so many are excited about where they'll end up next in the Bay! For now, visit their bottom floor location in Stonestown which has free parking. I'm happy to have gone once to get my fill and wish them the best.

We came for the fluffy Japanese pancake and it totally blew our minds. It was so light compared to my expectation. We got the salted egg yolk with pork floss this time since my bf wanted it savory but I think the fruits or sweet ones would be amazing. Also ordered the Wagyu beef curry and Takoyaki to have with it as well. We came on Saturday for brunch so had to wait a bit, not sure if they allow reservation or not. The mall is big so you can kill some time there while waiting.

We've seen this place all the time and thought it was about time we tried it. Glad we did! The cafe has a really nice vibe; not to mention the great service we received! We got the tonkatsu curry, seafood curry, dirty matcha latte, and a soufflé pancake. All good portions and pretty solid!

Gram Café is located at the back of the shopping mall (next to Target/Apple), which is not close to where all the other restaurants are located. We stumbled upon this restaurant while walking through the mall. It is spacious with lots of small tables on the sides and some larger ones in the middle. There's a QR code to scan when you are seated for ordering food and drinks. One great thing about it is that we ordered some main dishes and a pancake, and you have the option to ask for the pancake to be served after the entree is finished. This is awesome because the pancake should be eaten fresh to taste its best. Service-wise, they did a great job. They proactively gave us water and provided new utensils when they served the pancake after we finished the meal. *Geso Fry (Fried Squid Tentacles) with Spicy Mayo - Flavorful and lovely, lightly deep-fried. *Seafood Curry - There are three types of deep-fried seafood, including oyster, mackerel and prawn. They are delicious, though not as crunchy as I would have expected. I opted for udon instead of rice, and their udon is good quality and chewy. The curry sauce itself is typical Japanese curry style - mild and sweet. It also comes with a refreshing salad, making the whole plate very satisfying with lots of elements, a solid dish. *Wagyu Curry - The Wagyu patty, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing because it was overcooked (we ordered medium, but it turned out to be fully cooked), so it was definitely on the dry side. *Premium Matcha Creme Brulee Pancake - Yum! As mentioned above, you can specify to have your pancake served after your main course, which I strongly encourage if you plan to have your pancake afterward. This ensures it is freshly made. The pancake itself is soft and fluffy like a pillow. I loved the addition of the cream on the side and felt very satisfied after having the pancake. Overall, it's a great restaurant if you want to have something sweet and a nice place to relax or catch up with friends. They have plenty of options to choose from, and I will come back next time if I crave something to satisfy my sweet tooth.

3 Star review for me. 4 Star review for my daughter. 5 Star review for my wife. Average = 4 stars. Quality/Quantity - My wife took her guest here for lunch. They got 3 entrees, 3 drinks, dessert, and a "5 pack" (buy 4 get one free) to go. Sorry, I only have the pictures of her leftovers that she brought back for us to try. I did not care for any of these, just not my taste. My daughter liked both the Match and Strawberry, but not the Ube. She also did not enjoy the coconut shavings on the Ube. My wife liked it all! She enjoyed it so much that there were no leftovers, hence the dessert pack she bought to bring home. The pancakes are VERY soft and fluffy. Too soft for me. I enjoyed the fluffy part, but still needed some texture in my pancakes. Do keep in mind that this is a Japanese company with their version of pancakes. Atmosphere - Busy mall location. Plenty of mall parking, as long as you park a little farther. Everyone "fights" for the closest spaces. Good thing we enjoy walking and having less dings on our cars, LOL. Good size location. "Open kitchen" - Well, at least for dessert making. Cool decor. Indoor and mall shared seating. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm. Service - Okay. Price - $150, my wife felt it was reasonably priced, but again this was a 5 star experience for her. $6 for each of the desserts she brought home. Expensive in my opinion, especially for something I did NOT enjoy. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 2014 with your 60 worldwide franchise locations and your two USA locations so far.
